Beginning ABA therapy should feel clear, supportive, and structured, not overwhelming. At Stepwise Applied Behavior Analysis Therapy, we guide families through each step with transparency, professionalism, and compassionate support. Our process is thoughtfully designed to ensure services start smoothly and continue with strong clinical oversight and measurable progress.

1. Get a Diagnosis

ABA therapy begins with a formal diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) from a licensed MD or PhD. This diagnosis is essential for insurance authorization and helps streamline service approval. If you need guidance navigating this step, our team is happy to point you in the right direction.

2. Request an Intake

Getting started is simple. Once you contact us, our intake team gathers essential information, verifies insurance benefits, and answers any initial questions you may have. We prioritize minimizing wait times so services can begin as quickly and efficiently as possible.

3. Get an Assessment

Your child’s journey officially begins with a comprehensive, individualized assessment conducted by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). Through observation, caregiver interviews, and skill evaluations, we identify strengths, areas of need, and meaningful goals. Based on this assessment, we develop a personalized treatment plan tailored specifically to your child.

4. Work with Our BCBA and Behavior Technician

Once services begin, therapy is delivered in your home by a trained Behavior Technician (BT) under the close supervision of a licensed BCBA and LBA. Our team provides structured, one-on-one ABA therapy focused on communication, social skills, independence, and behavior regulation. We are certified to provide services nationally and throughout New York State.

5. Coordinate Care

Consistency across environments is key to lasting success. We collaborate closely with caregivers, schools, and related service providers to ensure treatment strategies are aligned and reinforced across settings. This coordinated approach strengthens skill development and reduces confusion or mixed messaging.

6. Ongoing Monitoring and Reporting

Progress is continuously tracked through data collection and regular clinical reviews. Senior clinicians provide supervision to ensure treatment remains effective and responsive to your child’s evolving needs. Families receive consistent updates, parent training, and practical support to help maintain and generalize skills in everyday life.

Every step of our process is guided by strong BCBA involvement, thoughtful planning, and a commitment to meaningful, real-life outcomes. From the first call to ongoing supervision, we are here to support your family with clarity, compassion, and clinical excellence.
